More than two hundred roadside trees planted at the site of Dharma Drum University
More than two hundred roadside trees planted at the site of Dharma Drum UniversityOn 26 December, 2009, an appreciation ceremony was held at Dharma Drum University (DDU) to recognize Rotary International in Taiwan (RIT) for its donation of more than two hundred roadside trees to be planted at the site of Dharma Drum University situated at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County. The ceremony was co-presided by President of DDU, Dr. An-Chi Liu, and Director of RIT, Mr. Yan-Shen Hsieh. Around 70 members of RIT and their relatives also attended the event to offer their congratulations. According to Director Hsieh, RIT has continuously been making tree donations in recent years across the island. This movement was echoed in the campaign titled ‘The Plant for the Planet:Billion Tree Campaign’, initiated by the United Nations, which has actively facilitated various efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Taiwan. President Liu first offered his warmest appreciation to RIT for its kind contribution, and then added in his remarks that Dharma Drum University is a university that promotes humanism; the addition of the roadside trees not only helps to enrich the cultural atmosphere on campus, but also contributes to environmental protection. The types of roadside trees donated include: sunshine trees, Chinese tallow trees and fragrant maples, which are not only effective for curbing air pollution, but also for the conservation of water and soil, as well as adding beauty to the campus.
