Former vice president prof. Aming Tu passed away on Nov 27, the service will be held on the Dec 23
Dear all, Amitabha
Professor Aming Tu, the former vice president of the Dharma Drum Buddhist College, died peacefully on November 27th , 2016 (Sunday) around noon at the Tamsui branch of the Mackay hospital in the company of relatives and friends.
Below are the wishes regarding the funeral that Professor Aming Tu hoped to see carried out after his passing away:
- In the spirit of master Sheng Yen’s teaching that a Buddhist funeral should not be a farewell ceremony or a memorial meeting, professor Tu expressed the wish that his funeral take the form a group chanting service including the recitation of the Heart Sutra as well as the Sutra on Impermanence, a copy of which should be offered to attendees. His name should not be displayed on an altar. Rather, the event should be an opportunity for participants to benefit from the study and practice of life education. For this reason, the service will be called the life education group chanting service and will be held at the DILA International Conference Hall followed by the ash burial ceremony in the Life Park located on Dharma Drum Mountain.
- It is sufficient to make the time, schedule and origin of the group chanting service known to all and it is not necessary to print out announcements for the event.
- During the service it is not necessary to make a PowerPoint presentation of professors Tu’s biography. The president of DILA may simply give a few opening remarks to explain the reasons for this service.
The group chanting service (as well as the ash burial ceremony) will be held on December 23rd (Friday) from 10:00 to 12:00 AM. The service itself will be held between 10:00 and 10:30 AM in DILA’s International Conference Hall while the ash burial ceremony will take place between 11:00 and 12:00 AM in the Life Park located on Dharma Drum Mountain.
Yours sincerely
November 27th, 2016
